NEW ORLEANS — Zion Williamson’s stellar performance came to an unfortunate end as he suffered a late injury in the New Orleans Pelicans’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Towards the end of the game, Williamson had to leave the court due to a left leg injury, ending his night with 40 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Despite his outstanding efforts that tied the score at 95-95, Williamson’s night was cut short when he walked off the court and back into the tunnel in frustration.
Without Williamson, the Pelicans couldn’t maintain their momentum, and the Lakers clinched a crucial 110-106 victory to secure the No. 7 seed in the playoffs.
The Pelicans will face the Sacramento Kings next, but Williamson’s availability remains uncertain as he undergoes imaging for his left leg soreness.
Pelicans coach Willie Green stated, “Right now, it’s left leg soreness and he’s going to get imaging on it tomorrow. We will figure out more. That’s the report I got back.”
Williamson, who played a career-high 71 games this season, showed remarkable resilience and determination throughout the game before his untimely exit.
Teammate Larry Nance Jr. praised Williamson’s performance, saying, “He gave us everything. He was incredible tonight. You can’t ask for more from that kid. He was unbelievable.”
Despite the heartbreaking injury, the Pelicans remain hopeful for Williamson’s recovery and future games. Coach Green emphasized, “It was tough to see him go down. We are all praying and hoping he is OK.”
